"Storage Monkeys is the premier peer networking organization, providing information to members to maximize the value of storage technology in support of information technology professionals."
No staff, let alone individual, has the bandwidth or resources to keep up with and learn all there is to know about the ever-changing technical, strategic and management issues related to the use of storage technology; and so, networking with one's peers to exchange ideas with those who have "been there, done that," has never been more essential. That is the purpose of Storage Monkeys, the premier peer networking organization in the storage industry.
Storage Monkeys international membership comprises companies of all sizes and types, each sharing a common need to have access to the latest information about products and support services that impact the storage industry worldwide. Storage Monkeys is end-user focused. Other participants, such as vendors, are encouraged to participate at the leisure of the end-user community to help facilitate discussion and understanding of storage technologies.
Classifications
Member classification is an important feature of the web site and helps ensure that the environment stays focused on the interests and needs of the end user community. Member participation is broken out by the following classifications:
End Users: The end user community is the foundation for Storage Monkeys. Great care is taken to ensure that only bonifide end-users, professionals who use storage technologies as part of their primary job function, are classified as an end user. End users are encouraged to contribute their knowledge of storage solutions to the benefit of other end users including both positive and negative experiences with specific solutions, support or questions regarding storage solutions and sharing of resolutions of storage solutions. No participant is permitted to "flame" the message boards with derogatory and demeaning comments to other participants, vendors or channel partners.
Vendors: Vendors, professionals who sell, consult or integrate storage solutions are encouraged to participate at the leisure of the end-user community as long as it helps facilitate discussion and understanding of storage technologies. Vendors are strictly forbidden from selling or marketing their solutions and products on the message boards and there is a zero tolerance policy - any violation will result in the removal of the vendor participant. Vendors will have the opportunity to exchange timely information on products, services and best practices separate from the message boards and these communications will be clearly identified as vendor contributions.
Channel Partners: Channel partners are solution providers, integrators and distributors of storage solutions and will be invited to participate at the leisure of the end-user community as long as it helps facilitate discussion and understanding of storage technologies. Channel Partners are strictly forbidden from selling or marketing their services on the message boards and there is a zero tolerance policy - any violation will result in the removal of the participant. As with Vendors, Channel Partners will have the opportunity to exchange timely information on products, services and best practices separate from the message boards and these communications will be clearly identified as Channel contributions.
Industry Analysts: Industry analysts, bloggers and media will be invited to participate at the leisure of the end-user community as long as it helps facilitate discussion and understanding of storage technologies. Industry Analysts are strictly forbidden from using the message boards to query end users about industry trends, product quality, news and information and there is a zero tollerance policy - any violation will result in the removal of the participant. Bloggers and media are encouraged to report their experience on the site so long as they do not report on specific comments without permission of the people involved first.
Storage Monkeys Statement of Purpose: Storage Monkeys is the premier peer networking organization, providing information to members to maximize the value of storage technology in support of information technology professionals.
Storage Monkeys was originally developed by Tim Masters, James Orlansky and Brad Denny after being frustrated that no general storage community was thriving on the interent. With the help of some friends in the storage industry (especially Greg Knieriemen), Storage Monkeys was born in June, 2008.
