There aren't many people at EMC that I can say I respect - Chad is one of them. I don't know him personally but he's demonstrated decency, graciousness and civility that isn't common with many of the other EMC bloggers. He even was kind enough (maybe unintentionally) to jump into a blog debate I was having with NetApp several months back chiding them for their absolute statements in their attempt to dismiss HP LeftHand as a viable storage offering.
That said, I can't tell you how disappointed I was by several of the statements Chad made about HP in this podcast. I thought for a while I was listening to an EMC attack dog (he knows who he is) that was using some voice changing software to sound like Chad. I'm working on a blog post to address in a bit more details, but here are a couple of quick things:
> HP didn't support SRM 4 at announcement. Ok - partially true. We did but it took VMware 5 days after the announcement to update their website to reflect that. Either way, HP was very engaged in supporting SRM 4.
> HP doesn't show up to the VAAI meetings - we're all a bit stumped on what meetings Chad was referring to. There are some VAAI pre-show meetings that take place at VMworld that VMware has told us aren't worth attending. That aside, HP meets directly with VMware on a very frequent basis to work on integration of VMware and HP StorageWorks. We’re pretty confident that our meetings are addressing whatever happens in the VAAI meetings Chad mentioned.
> HP is one of a small handful of storage vendors working directly with VMware on vStorage initiatives.
Does HP have more work to do - absolutely, but that doesn't change that Chad had his facts wrong. And yes, HP is working to do more to integrate our storage, server, and networking stack with VMware. I frankly like the hand we have versus Acadia. I don't think Cisco even shows up on the list of top 20 server vendors - not sure how they are "best of breed", another statement Chad made. I'll hopefully have a blog post up in the next day or so with more of my thoughts on this: www.hp.com/storage/blog.

I left on vacation (a Caribbean Cruise) and in my haste to go, forgot to leave the URL to a podcast that I did responding to the inaccuracies from Chad about HP and VMware. It's only about 10 minutes long: http://www.communities.hp.com/...cast.aspx. While Chad was indeed blunt, most of his comments about HP were wrong. Take a listen to my podcast.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how it seems that EMC, Cisco and others in the VCE inititiave that are looking for simle ways to describe Acadia appear to go out of their way avoiding to use the phrase or term hosting?
Cheers gs
